There’s Lots to Love About Online Learning

There’s Lots to Love About Online Learning

I think we can all agree it’s been an interesting last few months. A lot of us have really had to change the way we think and the way we work! Here at QuickSteps we’ve had a great deal of fun attempting to move our group and private dance classes to an online platform in a way that continues to make them fun and engaging for all our members.

What we’ve learned about online dance lessons

Despite occasional lag and some weird camera angles, we’ve found sharing content with members over Zoom to be simple and effective. It also encourages us all to dance at home in our own space! Sure, your house may not have a wooden sprung floor with full length mirrors, but at the end of the day the kitchen tiles or the living room floor is good enough for some personal practice! We hope this experience has encouraged you all to practice inside your own home, I know my dining room has definitetly had a work-out!

The benefits of online learning

Online learning allows ALL members to improve their dancing no matter what level you’re working at! Lets take a look at some level-specific benefits:

Beginner lever: Repetition is SO important, especially in these early days where dancing is really all about building coordination and mastering basic footwork. Online learning is flexible and perfect for a mid-week refresh to make sure you really have that rhythm correct and the feet are travelling in the right directions. In beginner classes we work on foundations, and often these are easy enough to practice without a large amount of space. We can look at waltz hesitations, rumba boxes, and salsa cross-overs without being too worried about stubbing our toes on the sofa.

Intermediate level: Although intermediate starts to incorperate a few trickier travelling moves, it also builds on technique and precision of body movement. Its ESSENTIAL that we can dance the basics smoothly with good balance and technique so we can look our best and avoid injury! By intermediate we expect our members to know the basics well enough that an online lesson can really focus on particular patterns, and technical details.

Advanced level: By this point I’m sure you’ve come to appreciate the importance of perfecting your basics. You’ve had fun with some crazy patterns, worked on lead and follow, and come to understand dance form and structure. Now its time to enhance your natural body movement and make all your patterns look smoother and more professional. We can look at personal styling, dancing without a partner, strengthening exercises and motion control as well new entries, exits and variations to patterns you already know and love.

Our plans to continue online learning in the future

We know a fair few of you are travel bugs, and we know that it can be difficult to continue dance practice and learning when you’re so far away from Adelaide and QuickSteps! For those of you who can’t stop boogying, online dance lessons are a perfect way for you to continue learning and practicing dance wherever you are.

It is also perfect for members who do fly-in fly-out work. No matter where business takes you, you don’t have to miss a single lesson! We can set up a regular schedule of in-person and online lessons, or just play it by ear if your work travel is less consistent. This way you can keep dancing, keep learning, and keep making the most of your QuickSteps membership! As awesome as we think online learning is, we still recommend contact learning because it allows us work on lead and follow, and see how your WHOLE body is moving (not just the parts the camera can see). And besides, we love seeing you in person and we love the energy you bring into the studio!

Why it is best to supplement online learning with contact learning?

As awesome as we think online learning is, we still recommend contact learning because it allows us work on lead and follow, and see how your WHOLE body is moving (not just the parts the camera can see). And besides, we love seeing you in person and we love the energy you bring into the studio!

So stay safe, we look forward to seeing you soon – whether that’s in-person, or online!
