Promenade Swivels

Promenade Swivels

Fun Fact: Promenade refers to any movements heading in the direction of the leaders left.

One of the most famous ‘Promenade’ steps is in Tango.

When leading this step it is helpful to slightly drop the leaders left hand to the follower’s waist height.

Your hand hold will also need to change from our ‘Monkey grip’ (common in Rock ‘n Roll and Swing) to the regular palm to palm hold you will find more commonly in dances such as Rumba, Waltz and Bachata. This hand change will allow you to press gently into each others frame as you swivel on the ‘in’ count, creating more connection.

When swivelling imagine your hips are moving;

  • ‘in’ towards your partner
  • ‘out’ away from your partner
  • repeat
