Catch To Hammerlock

Catch To Hammerlock

In this Level 3 Salsa tutorial, we’ll delve into the intricacies of the catch to hammerlock move. Whether you’re aiming to refine your technique or add dynamic flair to your salsa repertoire, this comprehensive guide is designed to elevate your skills and confidence on the dance floor. Let’s dive in and master this exciting step together!

1. Begin this pattern with the Cross Body Lead with Inside Turn

2. To create the ‘catch’ mentioned in the title, leaders keep hold of both hands. This catch will stop the followers rotating at the end of the inside turn so they are now facing the same direction as the leader for a half basic.

Tip: It is important to remind all salsa dancers of the importance of ‘finger tip’ control. We do not use thumbs when we are dancing but rather allow only our fingers and finger tips to maintain contact. This prevents injuries (shoulder, fingers and arms) and makes for softer, smoother dancing.

3. Move into a simple Lady’s Left Turn from beginner salsa all the way around until the follower is facing the leader in a Catch To Hammerlock position ready for their Narrow Corridor exit.
