Walks & Spins

Walks & Spins

Adding a spin to any rumba pattern is the perfect way to spice things up. The Rumba Walks on their own are a great way to move around the floor but it’s time to make them a bit more interesting with the spin.

You’ll notice both the leaders and followers can spin in this step but I would advise that, when social dancing, leaders refrain from doing this step themselves as it requires you to walk backwards for 7 steps and you can’t see where you are going!

The Leader’s Steps

In this video we are referring to the leader’s steps when we describe the gentlemen’s steps.

Lead the follower in a straight line for 7 steps lifting your left arm on the 4.5. Why 4.5? Step 4 is too early and will cause the turn to be wobbly and lack luster and step 5 is too late coming as a surprise to the follower and casuing them to panic and rush.

The Follower’s Steps

In this video we are referring to the follower’s steps when we describe the lady’s steps.

Attention followers. When perfroming this move it is important that you step straight back on ‘4’ without creating any turn. The turn will only start for you on step ‘5’ making for a crisper, sharper turn.
